Siljan is Dalarna’s lake and the heart of the classic Siljans village – formed by a meteorite impact 377 million years ago. Around the lake are villages like Rättvik, Leksand, Mora and Tällberg, and paddling on Siljan is to experience an open, beautiful lake water surrounded by Dalarnas cultural landscape.
Paddling on Siljan
Siljan is large and open, providing wide-ranging views but also demanding respect for the wind – the waves are rapidly being built over the open surfaces. Stay along the beaches and in the bays if you are above. The Orsasjön grind lake in the north and the sundown towards the Insjön in the south provides more protected options.
Good to know
Rent kayak and canoe at Siljan Kayak & Adventure in Leksand, Outdoor Events in Mora or En Kul Dag in Rättvik. Check the weather, stay close to the land at the fresh wind and always wear the life jacket.
