Best time to paddle in Sweden

In Sweden, you can paddle from ice load to ice laying – and van and properly equipped in between. Every season has its own character. Here is what fits when.

Our – light, silence and cold water

Spring offers bird songs, high water levels in river and almost folk empty water. But the water is still ice cold, long after the air gets hot, this is the most dangerous time of the year to underestimate. Summer – High Season for Everyone

Summer is safest and most grateful, especially for beginners and families: hot water, long days and in the north midnight sun. It’s also when there are most people on popular water – you want the peace, paddle early morning or search for lesser known joints. Keep an eye on the afternoon wind, which often takes over open spaces.

Autumn – Color and Silence

Early autumn is for many year’s finest paddling: clear water, beautiful colors, fewer mosquitoes and boats. The water will last for a while, but cools quickly into October. Bring extra clothes and count on shorter days – plan your homecoming well in advance of dusk.

Winter for the habit

Winter paddling is a sport of dry suit, ice and small margins. The landscape is troubling but requires habit, company and proper equipment. Are you new: Wait for warmer water? When is the paddle season in Sweden?

The high season is from late May to September, when the water is warmer and the days long. Van and properly equipped you can paddle all year round, but spring and late fall require respect for cold water. Summer is safer for beginners and families.

Can you paddle in winter?

When are the least people?

Since spring (May) and early autumn (September) often provide stillness, fine light and fewer mosquitoes and boats than during the holiday weeks in July. The water is colder, then, to dress for it. Many people think it is the best paddling of the year.
