Klarälven runs through Värmland and is one of Sweden’s most famous paddle rivers. On the lower routes through Hagfors and Torsby, the river floats lying and wide, making it a grateful multi-day tour of canoe where the current helps you forward. The area is associated with the old tick float, and still today it is possible to paddle or fleet down the river.
Paddling in the river
The quiet-floating parties also suit beginners and families – you slip forward at a leisurely pace and can camp along the beaches. Water level and current vary with season and rainfall, so check the conditions before you go and stick to stretches that match your habit. Farther north there is more lively water that requires more experience.
