The Northwest of West Värmland, around Årjäng near the Norwegian border, is one of Sweden’s most famous canoe regions. A network of interconnected lakes allows you to paddle for days and connect your own tours – from quiet small lakes with short portage to larger water with locks.
Paddling in the area
The area is suitable for both the weekend trips for beginners and longer stage trips for the habit paddlers. Many people choose to paddle easy road and allow the renter to arrange transportation back. You rent canoe and kayak locally at Nordmarkens Kanot Center.
Good to know
Respect the right of public access and landowners at breaks and tents, and check current rules and lock times before you get out. Bring a chart or a map – the lake system is large and easy to get lost in for the above.
