Vättern

Vättern is Sweden’s second-largest lake – a long clear-water inland sea bordering Småland, Östergötland, Västergötland and Närke. The unusually clear and cold water, the steep shores and the island Visingsö make Vättern a grand but demanding paddle setting.

Paddling on Vättern

Vättern is large, deep and known for turning hard quickly – the wind has free play over the open surfaces and the waves can get high. Paddling here suits the experienced best, staying close to land and planning short stages. Around Gränna and Visingsö and the bays at Jönköping there are more accessible parts. The cold water makes the right clothing extra important.
