Klarälven is Värmland’s and Sweden’s longest river, and the stretch from Sysslebäck down to Edebäck is a classical semi-water paddling in Värmland – the same water that the lumber rafting once flowed down. Wide, still and natural beauty flows the river through the forestry and the wide Klarälvsdalen.
Paddling on Klarälven
This part of the river is essentially quiet and the current carries you slow downstream, making it grateful for multi-day tours in canoe. You paddle past sandbanks, meandering elf swings and small communities like the Stöllet and Ekshead. The route is well suited to split up in day stages with tent or cottage overnight stay along the way.
Good to know
Water level and current vary with snow melting and precipitation – spring’s high water is more powerful, while the high and late summer is calmest. Check the conditions and possible local obstacles before you leave. Rent canoe and arrange transportation at Vildmark i Värmland or Värmlandsgården. Always wear the life jacket.
