Klarälven is Värmland’s river and Sweden’s longest river, and the stretch from Sysslebäck down towards Edebäck is classic flatwater paddling in Värmland – the same water the timber floating once followed. Wide, quiet and wooded, the river runs through forest country and the broad Klarälvsdalen.
Paddling on Klarälven
This part of the river is mostly slow-moving, and the current carries you gently downstream, which makes it a good multi-day canoe trip. You paddle past sandbanks, meandering bends and small places such as Stöllet and Ekshärad. The stretch splits well into day stages with tent or cabin nights along the way.
Good to know
Water level and current change with snowmelt and rain – spring high water is stronger, high summer and late summer are the calmest. Check conditions and any local obstacles before you go.
