Höga Kusten in Ångermanland is a Unesco World Heritage site where the mountains rise steeply straight out of the sea. The post-glacial land uplift – the greatest in the world – has shaped a coast of high cliff islands, deep fjärds and countless islands to camp on. It is one of Sweden’s most dramatic and grand sea-kayak waters.
Paddling on Höga Kusten
Around Skuleberget and Norrfjärden you paddle among high granite islands that rise 60–70 metres from the sea, with sheltered lagoons in between. Farther out wait islands such as Högbonden, Ulvön and Trysunda for multi-day trips. The mix of steep mountains, dense forest and open sea makes every trip an experience.

Rent a sea kayak at Höga Kusten Kajak in Lunde, Höga Kusten Kajakcenter at Skuleberget or Lappuddens Friluftscenter in Nordingrå. The coast is open and weather-sensitive – beginners should paddle guided or stay in sheltered fjärds, while experienced paddlers can head out towards the islands. Always wear a life jacket and check the weather.
