Overnight and tent from kayak and canoe

A multi-day tour where you paddle, camp and wake up at the water is the paddling’s finest form. With a little planning and respect for nature and landowners, overnight stays safe and legal. Here are the basics of tenting from canoe and kayak.

The Right of Public Access and Tent

The right of public access allows you to tent a few days in nature, provided you don’t bother and not ruin. Hold distance to residential buildings, avoid empty, arable and sensitive nature, and choose durable basis. If you want to stay longer or are you a larger group, ask the landowner. In nature reserves and national parks, special rules are often applied; read signs and our guide on the right of public access.

Choose the right camp

Look for prepared break and camp sites, wind protection or durable cliffs and beaches in the league. Go ashore in good time – before it darkens or blows up – and pull up the vehicle high so it doesn’t drift away when the wind turns or the water level changes. A place in the leather makes both cooking and sleep more beautiful.

Fire, garbage and toilet

Only fire where permitted, use existing fireplaces and respect fire-resistant bans – especially during dry summers. A storm kitchen is often easier and safer. Bring all the junk home, dig down the toilet visits a bit from water and leave the place more beautiful than you found it. This is the core of “leaving no traces.”

Pack smart for overnight

Plan stages according to ability and weather
