Paddling in Ångermanland
Ångermanland holds Höga Kusten – a Unesco World Heritage site where the mountains meet the sea and make the coast one of Sweden’s most dramatic sea-kayak waters.
Along Höga Kusten you paddle a steep, uplifted coast with deep fjärds, high mountains such as Skuleberget and countless islands to camp on. The post-glacial land uplift has shaped a unique landscape that draws sea kayakers from all over the country.
Sea kayak and guided tours you rent among others at Höga Kusten Kajak in Lunde near Skuleberget. Self-service hire (Kayakomat) is also in among others Örnsköldsvik and Härnösand.
Season
The sea-kayak season is mainly June–August. The coast is open and weather-sensitive – check wind and forecast, and stay in sheltered water if you are unused.
