Paddling in Södermanland
Södermanland offers paddling in two worlds – Stockholm’s southern archipelago towards the sea and quiet inland lakes and Mälar bays in towards land.
In the north, south of Norrström, parts of Stockholm and Mälaren lie in Södermanland. Here you get on the water in the middle of town at Långholmen Kajak or at Mälaren at self-service Kayakomat Axelsberg.
Farther out the southern archipelago spreads towards Utö, Nåttarö and Nynäshamn – classic sea-kayak waters where Aktiv Skärgård Utö rents kayaks. Inland there is also Sörmland’s lake-rich country for quieter canoe trips.
Season
The paddling season is mainly May–September. The city’s and Mälaren’s water are quiet; the open southern archipelago needs a check on wind and weather.
