Paddling in Småland

Småland is the landscape of lakes – thousands of lakes and the island-rich inland archipelago in Åsnen make it one of Sweden’s finest canoe landscapes.

The crown jewel is sjön Åsnen south of Växjö, Småland’s second-largest lake and a labyrinthine inland archipelago where parts belong to Åsnens nationalpark. Paddling between the islands, with camping along the way, is one of the landscape’s finest adventures.

At Åsnen you rent a canoe and kayak at Getnö Gård – Lake Åsnen Resort, which sits right by the national park and arranges guided tours and Canoe & Camp packages.

Season

The paddling season is May–September. The lake water is stable all summer; Åsnen is large and island-rich, so bring a map and watch the wind over open water.
